Department of Behavioral Healthcare Services

Priority Population

DBHS gives precedence to the following Priority Populations with intellectual disabilities, mental health and/or substance use disorders; pregnant females, intravenous (IV) drug users; HIV+, and individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis, have been discharged from a psychiatric hospital or state training facility, and/or diverted from a psychiatric hospital or jail. Individuals are assessed and triaged within 24 hours of contact with the agency.

Services

Central Intake

A single point of entry for initial intake, assessment, evaluation and appropriate referrals for all individuals seeking services.

 

Emergency Services/Crisis Intervention

Immediate response 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for individuals experiencing significant crisis due to acute mental disabilities or substance use disorders.

 

Crisis Stabilization

Direct care to non-hospitalized persons experiencing an acute crisis of a psychiatric nature that may jeopardize their current community living situation.

 

Case Management

Service coordination, linkage to benefits and services, and monitoring overall progress for individuals with long-term mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and/or substance use disorders.

 

Detoxification

Short-term, residential or hospital-based services for people with severe medical complications related to withdrawal from addictive substances.

 

Hospital and Facility Services

Short-term hospitalization for stabilization, longer-term residential support, and liaison with state and local hospitals for discharge planning.

 

Methadone Treatment

Methadone or other replacement medication maintenance, counseling, and detoxification for adults addicted to opiate-based drugs such as heroin and morphine.

 

Outpatient Treatment Services

Individual, group, and family therapy with related psychiatric and medication management on an outpatient basis for children, adults and families, including specialized services for females in the Intensive Women’s Outpatient Treatment track as well as Transitional Housing.


Prevention Services

Information, activities, and trainings in conflict management, mediation, and other life skills that prevent the onset of mental disabilities, substance use disorders, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

 

Early Intervention for Infants and Toddlers

Early intervention services to infants and toddlers who have or are at risk of developmental delays along with supportive services for their families.

 

Family and Youth Services

Wide array of services to children and adolescents to include case coordination, prevention, intervention and diversion programs for court involved and at-risk youth.

 

Day Activities

Educational and socialization activities, cultural enrichment, recreational opportunities, prevocational, and employment services to individuals with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and/or substance use disorders.

 

Supportive Living and Housing
Coordination, linking and monitoring of residential services and skill building for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disabilities, substance use disorders, and HIV/AIDS. Services are available for individuals who are homeless, including rental assistance and linkage to supportive services.
